Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
It is essential to strictly adhere to these directions to prevent the postponement of your surgery. You will receive a call the day before the surgery to discuss any questions or concerns, as there may be additional guidelines.
- It is important not to eat or drink, including water, for at least eight (8) hours before your appointment.
- You must avoid all types of tobacco products, including cigarettes and e-cigarettes/vaping, for a minimum of twelve (12) hours before your surgery. Ideally, it is recommended to reduce or stop smoking as soon as possible leading up to the day of surgery, as smoking of any kind may still be prohibited even after your surgery.
- A responsible adult must accompany you, remain in the reception area during the procedure, drive you home, and be capable of caring for you for the remainder of the day.
- Do not use marijuana or recreational drugs at least 3 days before surgery. Ideally, it is best to reduce or stop as soon as possible leading up to the day of surgery.
- You may not drive or operate any machinery for at least 24 hours after anesthesia.
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes with short sleeves that can be rolled past the elbow and low-heeled shoes.
- Jewelry, including all facial piercings, contact lenses, and dentures must be removed before the surgery.
- Do not wear nail polish, excessive makeup, or lipstick on the day of surgery.
- If you are feeling unwell or have an illness like a cold, sore throat, or stomach upset, please inform the office as soon as possible before the surgery.
- If you are taking any regular oral medications or supplements, please consult with your surgeon, Dr. Fleischmann, Dr. Peretti and Dr. Sims, before the surgical date for instructions.
