What is Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery?
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is one of nine dental specialties. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Fleischmann diagnoses and treats defects, injuries and diseases of the head, neck, face and jaws. He focuses on traditional and surgical treatment of these conditions, while working to maintain the aesthetics and function of the affected area.
Close AnswerWhat is Board Certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery?
Dr. Fleischmann graduated from the accredited dental school at Harvard University and is licensed to practice in Montana. Furthermore, he has completed an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program at University of Connecticut, which is approved by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation.
The American Dental Association recognizes the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as the board for the specialty. The Board is responsible for all aspects of board certification, which includes applicant review and exam administration.
During Dr. Fleischmann’s oral and maxillofacial surgery residency, he received graduate training in various disciplines. These included: general surgery, medicine, plastic surgery, anesthesia and pathology. He is trained to treat patients in hospitals, outpatient facilities, surgery centers and in his office.
Certification
Also called Diplomate status, Board Certification is a remarkable achievement. Dr. Fleischmann completed an intensive application and examination process above and beyond what was required of him to become an oral surgeon. Part of the process included letters of recommendation from board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons attesting to Dr. Fleischmann’s excellent ethical and moral standing in the profession and community.
Recertification
Finally, Dr. Fleischmann passed thorough written and oral qualifying and certifying examinations to receive his status as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He maintains this designation and stays up to date with ongoing continuing education. He recertifies every ten years through a comprehensive written examination.
